Computer Based Examination Tutorial

The computer based examination tutorial provides the opportunity for approved ABPM candidates to learn how to navigate through the exam. The tutorial can be viewed online as a Flash movie or downloaded for viewing and practice. However, the demonstration exam can only be download and viewed as an independent program. We recommend that you use the downloaded version to view the tutorial and practice with the demo exam.

These instructions apply to the downloadable version of the Tutorial and ABPM Demo Exam that runs on your local computer.

The Demonstration Exam allows you to try all the features that will be available on the actual ABPM exams. You may take the demonstration exam as many times as you wish until you are completely comfortable with the process.

The Guided Tour demonstrates all of the functions that you will use when taking the computer based exam and shows several types of questions. The ABPM exams contain only single best answer multiple choice questions, with or without graphics. You can exit out of the tutorial at any time by clicking on the square button in the upper left corner of the screen.

The Demo Test questions provide the opportunity to use all of the functions that will be present on the ABPM exams to enter responses, view visuals and exhibits, scroll pages, and review items. Examples of each type of function are shown. If you want to exit out of the Demo Exam before reaching the end, simply hit the Escape key on your keyboard (the Esc key is usually in the upper left corner of the keyboard).

If you have any questions about the operation of the Tutorial or Demo Exam, contact the ABPM office .

System Requirements for Downloading and Running the Tutorial and Demo Exam

  • The tutorial program requires a Windows-based PC with at least 64 MB of RAM, a Pentium processor, 10 MB available hard disk space, and video resolution set to 800 x 600 or higher. Computers at Pearson Professional Centers are Windows-based PC's.
  • The tutorial program is available through the link below. The tutorial and demo exam program is a self-installing file that will automatically open and launch when you download it.
  • Some Virus Scan software may disable the auto launch capability. Therefore, you may need to save the file and launch the demo manually by navigating to the saved location of the folder (where you saved the downloaded file) and then double clicking on the file "DemoTest.exe" within that folder. This file runs the tutorial and demo exam application.

Instructions for Downloading the Tutorial

When you click the auto launch link below, the browser will give you the option to "Run this program from its current location" or "Save this program to disk". Unless your virus scanning software does not allow it, you should select the "Run this program . . ." option. The program will self-install and run the tutorial. The file is about 1.5 megabytes in size and it will take a few seconds to a few minutes for the download, so please be patient. The run or save options may vary in other browsers. The above instructions are for Internet Explorer version 5 or later. Netscape will only give you the option to save the file.

These instructions apply to the online version of the tutorial.

Please note: In the online version of the tutorial, the 'Demo Test' and 'Exit' buttons DO NOT FUNCTION. The online tutorial may require you to click the Guided Tour button more than once to start the tutorial. This tutorial contains explanations about many question types and features. Not all of these question types and features will be present on the ABPM exam.
